Recommended Sample: 3:00 to the End

LP Palimpsest

Recommended Time: 2nd movement (Full Track below)

6 movement work for Flute, Violin, and Two Cellos Duration 12:00 A palimpsest is a scroll or manuscript that text can be scraped or washed off of and then used again. These were utilized as early as the 6th century. Recently, methods have developed to detect traces and recover various levels of the ancient erased text. What if this process was applied to sound, with each layer a previously erased track? LP Palimpsest is in six short movements, or “tracks.” Each movement is unified by certain techniques, such as attack, glissandi, harmonics, etc. Like bumps and grooves on an LP, small traces remain present throughout, and are re-contextualized as newer material is interwoven over top.

Feel Free to check out the other movements. All are around 2 minutes. Click Here for Full piece
